Taught Postgraduate Studies

Taught postgraduate programmes emphasise coursework and are mostly designed to equip students with professional knowledge on a particular subject.

The structure of these programmes varies by programmes and subject area. Most courses are conducted via lectures, seminars, tutorials and group discussions. Some programmes may require students to participate in group projects and write course papers and dissertations. Students are assessed for the courses they have taken and may be required to sit for examinations and tests.

Depending on the programme requirements and level of study, taught postgraduate programmes lead to Doctoral degrees, Master degrees and Postgraduate Diplomas/Certificates. Examples include the Doctor of Business Administration (DBA), Master of Arts (MA), Master of Science (MSc), Postgraduate Certificate in Laws (PCLL), etc.

Universities in Hong Kong offer a wide range of taught postgraduate programmes at different levels. We encourage applicants from around the world to request catalogues from our graduate schools to find out more about these programmes.
